Project: remodel and addition to existing house

Period: April 2004 thru August 2004

Bronson Koterwas's involvement: Site supervision and carpentry on all phases, from site layout thru finish hardware. Includes framing, exteiror finish, interior finish, custom cabinet building, other.

General Contractor: Cherry Homes Inc.

Designers: Dough Mayvor (of Mayvor Design) and Tom Foster (project owner)

This project consisted of the addition of 900 sq' to the existing home providing the owners with a new sun room (shown above), wood working shop, garden tool/storage room, and 3rd garage bay along with new tile floors in existing kitchen and dinning rooms.

Double doors open wide between the existing dining room and added sun room. The tile sits on a 2" concrete slab over a joist system. The concrete slab contains PEX tubing which is tied into the homes hot water heating system. Water can be circulated thru tubing in the sun room slab into the rest of the homes heating system without the boiler firing on, allowing for distribution of the solar gain in the sunroom to the rest of the home.

Mid day on a hot summer day in the sunroom, yet the sun room with multiple awing windows for evening/night time air circulation and the benefit of significant thermal mass in the floor system stays at a comfortable temperature.

Skylights in the sunroom ceiling bring natural light deep into the sunroom to the potting bench workstation.

Cabinets custom built from red oak to match existing cabinetry in the kitchen are the heart of the owners potting bench
